Sustainability

Saving energy and resources and effectively battling climate change: Sustainability is on the focus of responsible business management. As a family company in the third generation we align our entrepreneurial endeavours with our ambitions to be socially conscientious at all times to lead RAPS responsibly into a secure and sustainable future.

Energy Management

Energy Management

RAPS has an in-house sustainability team with energy management representatives who continuously analyse and evaluate our activities and our progress.

In order to recognize new efficiency advantages and possible savings at an early stage, RAPS is certified according to the energy management norm DIN EN ISO 50001:2018. Regular external energy audits take place to control and up-date the certification.

An essential measure to achieve sustainable savings is the operation of two block-type thermal power stations at the location in Kulmbach. We are able to reduce CO2 emissions since we can take advantage of the generated electricity and the complete heat. The synchronous generation of electricity and heat in our block-type thermal power stations reaches an efficiency rate of more than 90 percent.
Another measure that we have established at RAPS Fresh, our competence center in Versmold, is the principle of heat recovery. We use the waste heat that arises when our food is cooled to heat our buildings or to heat water. This enables us to significantly reduce both energy consumption and CO2 emissions.
Aspects of sustainability and the economical, efficient use of resources also play a decisive role in new construction projects. Flow of goods and the building technology in Obertrum were planned according to the best possible economic and ecologic criteria, for example through the use of photovoltaic systems and heat recovery in all ventilation and air conditioning systems.

Furthermore, we have personally selected all suppliers we are co-operating with on-site, according to our quality and sustainability requirements.

Many of our partners in Germany and Europe have short supply chains. We prefer local and regional products and own cultivation and contract farming. We cooperate with the only German dry onion manufacturer in Regensburg and benefit from short distances and an excellent ecological balance. Quality is the only criteria justifying long transport routes. Regular audits at suppliers in China, India and many other countries ensure a reliable high quality of our products. This is also the case with our Indian supplier from Kerala, from whom we have been sourcing the raw material chilli for over 30 years. In addition to numerous certifications, our partner supplier has committed itself to the protection of biodiversity, the sustainable use and development of resources and biodynamic agriculture.
