OUR DEVEOLPMENT GOALS

The only way to preserve the planet as an intact, beautiful place for people and animals to live and create social structures based on the common good and cohesion is for all of us to play our part: governments, institutions, companies and, of course, individuals. We, the management and employees at RAPS, want to put this into practice and have set ambitious targets in all areas, from climate protection to animal welfare to social responsibility. These are based on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted by the UN.

SDG 3: GOOD HEALTH AND WELL-BEING

As a company in the spices industry, we believe it is our duty to improve people’s well-being and living standards throughout our international supply chains. To do so, in the next few years we will investigate potential courses of action in the countries from which we source our raw materials and support various projects depending on what is needed.

But our own employees matter to us too. We are committed to ensuring and, where possible, further improving high levels of workplace health and safety for employees – and this is not confined to providing high-quality, safe workplaces. To protect and support the health of our employees, we also hold events and talks on a wide range of topics, including addiction prevention. We also organise team sporting activities, such as bowling, cycling and evening events. For the good of our planet, we support the “Protein Transformation” to reduce carbon emissions from livestock farming. Our portfolio features outstanding, delicious and nutritious products that help make attractive plant-based alternatives more easily available, establish these on the market in the long term and win over more and more consumers.

SDG 7: AFFORDABLE AND CLEAN ENERGY

Energy management at our sites has been DIN EN ISO 50001 certified for many years. We use exclusively green energy for our buildings and production. Some of this comes from our own solar panels. Sustainable options are taken into consideration for all new construction and renovation work.

In connection with this, we are involved in creating a hydrogen economy in the region under the initiative of the Kulmbach district.

SDG 9: INDUSTRY, INNOVATION AND INFRASTRUCTURE

As an industrial company, we want to combine business principles and responsible action. For this reason, we consider sustainability aspects every time we invest in a new facility and assess how efficient it is. Our aim is to constantly improve. We thus regularly look to see whether we can make savings to further reduce the amount of energy and resources used for production.

SDG 12: RESPONSIBLE CONSUMPTION AND PRODUCTION

All raw materials are valuable. We do our utmost to continually reduce production waste and faulty batches even further. We aim to reduce packaging generally and, for example, already use thinner composite materials. Further improvement opportunities through the use of mono-materials are also being discussed. In administration, we also want to maintain our paperless office approach to conserve resources.

SDG 13: CLIMATE ACTION

As an employer, we consider it our duty to provide more ways for our employees to protect the climate and reduce CO2. We have been offering “job bikes” (including e-bikes) since 2014, encouraging staff to leave their cars at home. Another flagship project is in the development phase: all plant transport is to be electrified and powered by solar energy. Our aim is to be certified under the DIN EN ISO 14001 standard by the end of 2023, a process that depends on us achieving our own environmental targets. We want to know where we currently stand and how we can be even greener, which is why we are preparing a comprehensive transformation concept to provide an insight into our current climate impact and greenhouse gas footprint.
