Quality

Some say that we are obsessed with quality. We think that our customers deserve the best. Our drive for quality does not start in production, but is already there in our direct influence on growers upstream, to identify and avoid risks early. Careful selection of ingredients is carried out using RAPS own specifications and quality criteria, from suppliers who are reputable and certified. RAPS has one of the best equipped food laboratories and so has the best facilities for direct quality assurance. System-based sampling, test planning and results validation combine to create systematic quality control at all levels of production. Preventative crisis and risk management, seamless traceability, management of allergens, foreign bodies and hygiene are all daily practices. We never compromise on quality and food safety.

Company culture

RAPS has strong roots. Our view of ourselves is shaped by over 85 years of experience and business traditions.

The basis of our activities today is close cooperation with tradesmen. That means: straight talk, trust creates trust. This is still reflected today in the very friendly atmosphere between colleagues in the company. Our contacts with customers in the trades, catering and industry are very close and it is very much a partnership.

Over the years the market requirements have evolved. RAPS has also evolved. RAPS has not only adjusted to adapt to the market, RAPS has also set new standards with its own developments. Innovation and growth, forward-looking while remaining reliable.

Many things change to challenge our foundations, but we maintain a shared goal – we must delight our customers. This cannot be done by one person alone, the whole team must participate.

Sustainability

High quality original spices are the basis for the success of a spice company. For RAPS, it this self-evident that ecological sustainability needs to be promoted.

RAPS has already been working with our own contract growers in Germany and abroad for over 25 years. They apply RAPS growing directives which include the following targets:

  • Support for native agriculture
  • No child labour, as per the BSCI Code
  • Reduced transport distances
  • Complete traceability
  • Husbanding resources
  • Planned plantings

...while achieving the quality we require in our products.

RAPS is a committed member of the "Round table on Sustainable Palm Oil", RSPO. The RSPO is an association of environmental organisations, producer companies from all business sectors, investors and bankers. The aim is to promote the sustainable production of palm oil, and to become a force for protection of the rainforests.

When using palm oil, RAPS uses a two-pronged strategy.

  • RAPS develops palm-oil free products to reduce the consumption of palm oil.
  • As a member of the RSPO (Round table on Sustainable Palm Oil), RAPS promotes the sustainable production of palm oil.
